Ja’Nel Jamerson is the Executive Director of the Flint Early Childhood Collaborative and Educare Flint. Prior to serving in this role, Ja’Nel served for 10 years in the field of education; most recently as Executive Director of the Flint & Genesee Literacy Network.
An ardent advocate for holistic family engagement, Ja’Nel seeks to disrupt intergenerational cycles of poverty through the development and implementation of programs, partnerships, and policies that honor the interdependence between the success of children and the well-being of their parents.
His commitment to the success of children and families is apparent in his community involvement as well. Ja’Nel serves as a commissioner on the Michigan Prek-12 Literacy Commission, a board member for the Michigan League for Public Policy, and is an alumni member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. where he serves as advisor to the local college chapter and as a mentor for Flint-area youth through the Alpha Esquire Leadership Program.
Ja’Nel has been recognized for his professional and community contributions as the recipient of the Successful Alumni Recognition from the University of Michigan-Flint’s Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives (2016), the Young Professional Leader of the Year Award from the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce (2015), the Community Impact Award, and Commitment to Service Award from the Michigan Campus Compact (2010, 2012).
A native of Flint, MI and proud graduate of the Flint Community Schools District, Ja’Nel completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Michigan-Flint, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English (’12), Master of Arts in Secondary Education with a specialization in Urban Education (’14), Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction (’19), and is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Education Leadership.
Ja’Nel and his wife, Phaejare’ Jamerson, reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
