Who We Are

Strong neighborhoods don't happen by accident. They're built through sustained investment in places, culture, and belonging. The places where people live, gather, play, and age directly shape their physical and mental wellbeing. Building infrastructure means increasing access to safe parks, clean public spaces, and strong cultural resources. And in communities where disinvestment has compounded over generations, rebuilding that infrastructure is an act of health equity.
The Community Foundation of Greater Flint invests in the places people call home, supporting the green spaces, public gathering spots, cultural assets, and neighborhood-led projects that make our communities places where people want to stay, build, and belong.
Theory of Impact: We strive to enhance community livability by supporting access to safe and inclusive green and public spaces while preserving cultural and natural resources
How we’re investing in Vibrant Communities:
The Community Safety Collaborative (CSC) is a collaborative of community partners. The goal is to create a blueprint for gun violence prevention in Flint that uses data, resident support, and a public health crisis approach as methods to address the issue. The network also promotes and supports the work of individuals, groups, and organizations that are stakeholders in gun violence prevention.
The Neighborhoods Small Grants Program supports established and emerging citizen-based groups or organizations in moderate to low-income neighborhoods in and near the City of Flint to develop projects that address pressing issues within their neighborhoods; build alliances with other community institutions; and develop community-based leadership.
Within Genesee County, five communities have endowed community funds: Clio, Davison, Fenton, Flushing, and Grand Blanc. These funds bring together the thinking of local leadership to best meet community needs.
Community Foundation of Greater Flint manages the assets, while local leaders review grant proposals and recommend funding for their community’s nonprofit organizations.
