Their Love for Clio is Everlasting

For Don Lee the death of his beloved wife, Judy, is still raw. It’s only been a few months, but Don’s immediate actions will preserve his wife’s legacy through a gift to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. The Donald E. and Judy M. Lee Fund has been established to benefit charitable causes in the Clio area for good, forever.

The couple established trusts through their estate plan, and wanted to give something back to the community that they care so deeply about. Judy’s service as a member of the Clio Area Community Fund Advisory Committee exposed her to the good work being done in Clio, and together, Don and Judy did their best to preserve all that is good in their community.

Don and Judy were acquainted in high school, but their love of 54 years blossomed in their college years. They raised two children, were involved in the Jaycees as young adults, and worshipped together at Bethany United Methodist Church. Family vacations up north and winter fun at Crystal Lake Club in Florida kept the couple busy and active.

“Judy was always upbeat, often using some form of game as discipline and Christian values as her guide,” shares Don. “She had her animals, her home, her family, and all her friends. She was wealthy beyond means.”

Clio is small town America, says Don, adding he and Judy worked hard to keep it an attractive, pleasant and friendly community. “We have many good intentioned groups and we collectively need to share so we are not stumbling over each other and competing for dollars,” says Don. He participates in Common Ground, a community forum for information sharing.

Don will spend his winter in Florida this year, without his beloved Judy. But through the establishment of the Fund in his wife’s memory, Don and Judy Lee continue to support what they care about most… beautification, arts, music and theater in Clio.
