Team Whitmire Get’s it Done

Lynn and Gary Whitmire

Conversing with Gary and Lynn Whitmire in their Flushing home, it's easy to feel the teamwork this couple brings to their relationship. Perhaps it is Gary's athletic background as a player and coach. Or maybe it's Lynn's commitment to the community through her volunteerism. Together, Team Whitmire is a force that cannot be beat!

Lynn and Gary are long-time donors to the Flushing Area Community Fund. Lynn served on the Fund's Advisory Committee from its early beginnings. "It was fun to start it and to see how far it has come," says Lynn. "The smallest donation adds up and the endowment continues to grow forever. I was happy to help."

The couple met in college while Lynn was attending Michigan State University and Gary Hillsdale College. Both educators and Spartan fans, they moved to Gary's hometown of Flushing where he began teaching science at Flushing High School. He progressed through the school district and retired as the school's principal in 2006.

Giving is part of their nature. Involved in Flushing United Methodist Church, they enjoy volunteering in the Family Promise program. Lynn volunteers as Applewood Estate in Flint, and is a 40-year member of the Flushing Women's Club.

"For us, giving is natural and feels right," says Gary. "We are happy to support programs that do more for the less fortunate."
