Kommareddi Family Fund

Prasad and Jay Kommareddi are active members of the medical community in Flint, volunteering time at the Genesee County Free Medical Clinic and raising money to sustain the operations. Jay has always been interested in women and girls issues, and sees herself as an activist, not a philanthropist.

"I'm a strong believer in having policies in place that will lift up underserved populations like women, children and the elderly," says Jay. "When I began working with the free medical clinic, I was shocked that there were so many people who did not have health insurance. That's what started my activist phase."

Active she is! She currently serves as a commissioner on the Michigan Women's Commission where she chairs the committee on sex trafficking of children. She co-founded the Genesee County Human Trafficking Task Force, and is passionate about making other's lives better. When the couple established the Kommareddi Family Fund, they turned to the Community Foundation to make the greatest impact.

"Here is an organization that can help me identify and research nonprofit organizations in this area," said Jay. "It is wonderful that the Community Foundation has staff that can help you with history, background and understanding of the nonprofit community."
