Inspiring philanthropy and capturing the legacy of our community is at the heart of our work. We take great pride in bringing people together in a way that drives community investment and catalyzes the community's spirit. We do this for the common good and in a way that ensures all people are given an opportunity to thrive.
Our board took a bold move in 2017, promoting a kid from Flint to lead the Foundation. This leadership transition signaled our ongoing commitment to an inclusive approach to philanthropy-an approach that listens to and works with the people of the community in order to develop a true partnership. We are leading in a time where the challenges are large, and the opportunities to make a profound impact are even larger.
We continue to invest in our strategic priority areas of literacy, access to healthy foods, and Flint neighborhoods. We opened doors to a 36,000 square foot, $16 million demonstration school modeled on providing the best quality early childhood education in the country. The Flint Promise scholarship program was launched, offering new hope for graduating students from Flint. And we accepted yet another challenge-to transform the racial narrative in Flint through the W.K. Kellogg's Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation initiative.
It's a great start, and we look forward to doing even more together at this moment in time for our community.
