C-19 Rapid Response Initiative

A new grantmaking opportunity has concluded and the Community Foundation is grateful to area nonprofit organization leaders who quickly submitted over $5 million in requests for services that are addressing the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on African American and Latinx residents. Funding for the Community Foundation’s Rapid Response Initiative was made possible by a $2.5 million grant from the Michigan Public Health Institute.

Two committees were responsible for reviewing and scoring all applications – the Greater Flint Coronavirus Relief Fund Advisory Committee and the Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Inequities Rapid Response Review Committee. Community Foundation leadership consulted with the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and the City of Flint on small business assistance.

The Task Force Committee recommended $994,000 in grants to 33 nonprofit organizations, pending due diligence. Proactive grants were advised by the Relief Fund Committee.
