While the Community Foundation serves all of Genesee County, many donors have designated their gifts to support the quality of life in the Flint area. These endowed field of interest funds focus on a specific donor interest such as arts and culture, health, youth, beautification or historic preservation, neighborhood improvement in low-income areas, and scholarships for students attending Flint Community Schools.
In addition, the Community Foundation’s mini-grants program ensures that resources are available for a broad spectrum of community organizations serving the Flint area. Priority is given to proposals that:
Bring people together who are typically separated by barriers (e.g. race, economic status, disability, age, etc.) and thereby create a stronger sense of cohesion and inclusiveness within our community
Benefit populations that have historically had challenges accessing resources, with particular consideration given to proposals that benefit people of color and children in poverty
Support community-building events, particularly events that build a sense of community pride and identity.
