When the 911 Twin Towers Ground Zero Memorial is constructed in Clio, visitors will experience a sense of patriotism, says Bill Morgan, chair of the Clio Area Community Fund Advisory Committee. A grant of $1,270 from the Alice L. Boyse Community Fund will support the project. The Clio Area Youth Advisory Committee also advised a $500 grant.
The Memorial will be displayed at the Clio Fire Authority’s Station 1. The focus of the design is a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, with an American flag backdrop and the names of emergency personnel who lost their lives on September 1. Total cost of the project is $6,000 and other community fund raising efforts continue.
A $2,540 grant was also made to support the reconstruction of the retaining wall at Clio Area Veterans Memorial Park. Funding came from the Clio Area Community Fund and the Alice L. Boyse Community Fund. Construction will include removing the wall, installing a new drainage system, new footings for the wall, foundation for the cannon, concrete under walkways for commemorative bricks, and electrical work for lights if needed. Construction may begin this fall or spring, whenever all of the funds have been raised. The total cost of the project is $49,637.
